Efstratios M. Kolibianakis

Concise curriculum vitae

Professor Kolibianakis got his Medical Degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1991), and his MSc in Medical and Pharmaceutical Research (2002) and PhD on the optimization of GnRH antagonist stimulation (2004) from the Dutch Speaking Brussels Free University in Belgium. He also has an MSc in Healthcare Management from the School of Social Sciences at the Greek Open University (2014).

Professor Kolibianakis has published several chapters in books, 165 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (PUBMED, 5/2020), has 7470 citations (SCOPUS, 5/2020) and a Hirsch Index of 50 (SCOPUS, 5/2020). Professor Kolibianakis has given more than 200 lectures at international meetings and has been on the editorial boards of Human Reproduction (2005-2009), BJOG (2017-2020), RBMOnline (2009-present), Fertility-Sterility (2011-present) and F&S Science (2020).

He has served as the the coordinator of the Special Interest Group Reproductive Endocrinology (SIG RE) of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) (2013-2015), as  the Chair of Special Interest Groups Committee of ESHRE(2017-2019) and he is currently past chair of the Special Interest Groups Committee of ESHRE.

Professor Kolibianakis is the Head of the Unit for Human Reproduction at the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and the director of the executive committee for the postgraduate training programs (MSc) in “Human Reproduction ” (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki).

Ioannis Sfontouris M.Med.Sci, PhD

I am an ESHRE-certified Senior Clinical Embryologist and Director of Embryology at Eugonia IVF Unit in Athens. I also hold the post of Honorary Assistant Professor in Clinical Embryology at the University of Nottingham. During the term 2019-2022 I serve as Coordinator of the Special Interest Group Embryology of ESHRE.

I obtained my degree in Biology in 1998 at the University of Patra, and subsequently my M.Med.Sci in ART (1999) and PhD in Reproductive Physiology (2004) at the University of Nottingham. My doctoral thesis explored the mechanisms of oocyte maturation and the interaction between the oocyte and granulosa cells during follicle development. During the same time, I trained as Clinical Embryologist at Nottingham University’s IVF Clinic Nurture.

My research focuses mainly on the optimisation of embryo culture systems, non-invasive embryo quality assessment, and aspects of reproductive endocrinology, such as ovarian stimulation protocols and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. In addition, throughout my career I have been actively involved in teaching. At present, my primary teaching commitment is on the Master’s Course in Assisted Reproduction Technology of the University of Nottingham. In addition, I am regularly Invited Lecturer in several other ART Master’s Courses in the UK and Greece.

Ioannis Sfontouris M.Med.Sci, PhD

Grigorios Grimbizis

Professor Grigoris F Grimbizis, M.D., Ph.D., is the Director of the 1st Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2017. He received his Medical Degree in 1984, graduated as an obstetrician-gynecologist in 1993 and, did his PhD at the same University in 1996. He worked as a post-graduate fellow in infertility and endoscopic surgery at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine of the Free University of Brussels. His research and clinical interests include gynecological endoscopy and reproductive medicine and he has published more than 100 papers in these fields. He is the President of ESGE (European Society for Gynecological Endoscopy) and he was a past member of the Executive Committee of ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology), elected member of the Committee of National Representative of ESHRE, Vice President of the Hellenic Society of Gynecological Endoscopy, elected member of the Executive Board of Hellenic Society of Obstetrics – Gynecology and the Hellenic Society of Reproductive Medicine. He was coordinator of the Committee ESHRE/ESGE Working Group for female genitals anomalies, member of the ESHRE/ESGE/WES working group for the recommendations of the surgical treatment of Endometriosis and of the working group for the classification of endometriosis.

Leonidas Zepiridis

Concise curriculum vitae

Dr. Leonidas I. Zepiridis completed his medical training (MD) at Ioannina University, Greece in 1989 and completed his training in OBGYN in the United Kingdom and Greece. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2004.

In Feb 2010 he completed his two-year Subspecialty in Assisted Reproduction (ESHRE accredited), at the Unit for Human Reproduction of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, “Papageorgiou” General Hospital, Greece, and for the next six months he was a Fellow as part of his Subspecialty Training in Assisted Reproduction on “In Vitro Maturation of Oocytes”, at the Dutch Speaking Free University of Brussels, Belgium.

Dr. Zepiridis has published more than 45 papers in peer review international journals with more than 1500 references, and 37 full papers in Greek journals.

He authored 2 chapters in international and 18 chapters in Greek books and was an invited speaker in more than 90 national and international congresses and seminars.

He is currently an associate professor of OBGYN in the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

His main interests include infertility, endoscopic surgery and ultrasound in Obgyn.

Juan García-Velasco

Concise curriculum vitae

Juan García-Velasco, MD, PhD, is Director of IVI Madrid. He is also Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Rey Juan Carlos University, Madrid, Spain, where he is Director of their Master’s Degree Programme in Human Reproduction.

Professor García-Velasco graduated from University Medical School, Madrid, in 1990 and received his obstetrics and gynaecology certification from La Paz Hospital, Madrid, in 1995. He completed his PhD in Medicine at Autonoma University, Madrid, in 1995, and from 1997 to 1998 studied at Yale University, New Haven, CT, under a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship.

Professor García-Velasco’s main research interests have been in IVF and endometriosis. He is the Principal Investigator of projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health in Spain, and has received awards from the Spanish Fertility Society, Spanish Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and 22 book chapters on human reproduction, endometriosis and hypo- and hyper-ovarian stimulation response. Currently he is Editor of RBMOnline.

Julia Bosdou

Concise curriculum vitae

Julia Bosdou was born on July 29, 1984. In 2009, she graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with grade “excellent”. She received her MSc in Medical Research Methodology in 2011 and, subsequently, her PhD with “excellent with distinction” grade in Human Reproduction from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2016.

Dr Bosdou is an Obstetrician & Gynecologist specialist since December 2018 and she is currently a sub-specialist trainee in Reproductive Medicine at the Unit for Human Reproduction, at the 1st University Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her field of interest is infertility, reproductive endocrinology and research methodology. She has published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals and chapters in international books. Also, she has participated in several oral and poster presentations at international scientific Meetings/Congresses and has been an elected Junior Deputy member of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Reproductive Endocrinology of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) (2017-2019).

Konstantinos Dafopoulos

Dr. Konstantinos Dafopoulos is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, School of Health sciences, University of Thessaly in Larissa, and Head of the IVF Unit in the University Hospital of Larissa. Prof. Dafopoulos studied medicine in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

His doctorate thesis was on ovarian control of gonadotrophins secretion and his specialist training took place in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece.

He trained in Reproductive Medicine and Endoscopic Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck in Germany.

He has published more than 100 papers in international peer reviewed journals and more than 20 chapters in books. He was an invited speaker in more than 100 national and international congresses and received 4 awards for his research.

He teaches in 9 postgraduate training programs (MSc) in the University of Thessaly, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Crete, Democritus University of Thrace.

He is member of the Administrative Boards of the Hellenic Society of Gynecologic Endocrinology and the Hellenic Society of Fertility Preservation.

His main research interests include ovarian and pituitary function, polycystic ovary syndrome, the role of ghrelin and adipokines in reproductive function and ovarian stimulation for IVF.
