Concise curriculum vitae

Dr. Christos P. Tsametis was born in Grevena, Greece in 1970 and graduated with Honors from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in 1993. He has acquired the speciality of “Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism” at the relevant Department of “PANAGIA” General Hospital in Thessaloniki. In 2004, having a scholarship from the Greek State, he worked as a clinical and research fellow in Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) at Churchill Hospital, Radcliffe Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, UK. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from AUTh in 2013, studying the dynamics of Antimüllerian hormone in subfertile men. In 2015, after completing the appropriate training, he became the first Clinical Andrologist in Greece certified by the European Academy of Andrology. Currently, he works in private practice in Thessaloniki and serves as a clinical scientific collaborator at the Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology, 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, AUTh at “Papageorgiou” General Hospital.

Christos is a Senior Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist, an Assistant Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at  University of New South Wales, Australia.

Prof. Venetis is also the Global Head of Clinical Research for Virtus Health, one of the largest organizations of ART services globally.

His research has attracted more than 1.5 million dollars in funding in the last 5 years.

He has been named in the top 1% of most cited researchers worldwide in Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine for 2021. He is an author of >115 publications in international scientific journals (h-index: 42, >7800 citations, Google Scholar), of several chapters in books and has been an invited speaker in >200 international scientific meetings. He has co-edited a textbook on the evidence-based management of Recurrent Implantation Failure.

For many years he has been a passionate advocate of evidence-based medicine in his field and has been serving as a member of the editorial board of Human Reproduction since 2008. He is also currently a Section Editor for RBM Online, for Reproductive Biology & Endocrinology, an Associate Editor for F&S Reviews, Reproductive Sciences and for Fertility & Reproduction.

He regularly lectures in national and international postgraduate (MSc) courses, and he is currently a course coordinator for the MSc in Human Reproduction (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and a convenor for the MSc in Reproductive Medicine (University of New South Wales).

He has also held several leadership positions, including being a Director for the Board of the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand (2019-2023) and the Deputy Chair of the Research Grants Committee of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).

His research interests include ovarian stimulation, endometrial receptivity, reproductive epidemiology and the health of mothers and babies after ART. He is currently leading a number of research projects in these fields both nationally and internationally and is mentoring junior colleagues.

Ioannis Vakalopoulos

Dr. Ioannis Vakalopoulos MD, PhD, Fellow of European Boards of Urology (FEBU) and Fellow of European Committee for Sexual Medicine (FECSM) is surgeon urologist, being full-time faculty member of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/Greece (AUTH) since 2006 in the 1st Department of Urology of AUTH in “G. Gennimatas” General Hospital of Thessaloniki, currently in the post of Associate Professor of Urology-Andrology. He is also currently President of Hellenic Association of Andrology and Vice President of Urologic Association of North Greece.

Professor Vakalopoulos is dealing especially with Sexual Medicine and Andrology. Specifically, he is dealing with erectile dysfunction, orgasm and ejaculation disorders, disorders of sexual desire, chronic pelvic pain syndromes-chronic prostatitis, congenital penile curvatures or Peyronie’s disease, penile diseases and microphallia. He is also dealing with male infertility, undescended testis, testicular tumors and surgical treatment of varicocele and retrieval of spermatozoa. He has one of the largest series in Greece of penile prosthesis implantation for the treatment of refractory erectile dysfunction.

His research interest is in the field of Andrology, male incontinence and urological cancer biology. He has presented in more than 150 Greek and International conferences and has written 40 papers in international and 20 in Greek scientific journals and decades of summaries in the records of international and Greek congresses. He used to be a trainer of the American Medical Systems company for the implantation of penile implants and artificial sphincters. He is a reviewer in 17 international peer-review scientific journals and associate editor in the peer review medical Journal “Hippokratia”

Leonidas Zepiridis

Dr. Leonidas I. Zepiridis completed his medical training (MD) at Ioannina University, Greece in 1989 and completed his training in OBGYN in the United Kingdom and Greece. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2004.

In Feb 2010 he completed his two-year Subspecialty in Assisted Reproduction (ESHRE accredited), at the Unit for Human Reproduction of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, “Papageorgiou” General Hospital, Greece, and for the next six months he was a Fellow as part of his Subspecialty Training in Assisted Reproduction on “In Vitro Maturation of Oocytes”, at the Dutch Speaking Free University of Brussels, Belgium.

Dr. Zepiridis has published more than 45 papers in peer review international journals with more than 1500 references, and 37 full papers in Greek journals.

He authored 2 chapters in international and 18 chapters in Greek books and was an invited speaker in more than 90 national and international congresses and seminars.

He is currently an associate professor of OBGYN in the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

His main interests include infertility, endoscopic surgery and ultrasound in Obgyn.

Scientific Profile

Dr. Theofanis Vavilis’s research interests include biomedicine, specifically biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, neurobiology, and neuropharmacology. Notable work experience includes the development of drugs of biopharmaceutical interest as part of the Research and Development department of a leading Greek pharmaceutical company. Furthermore, he has been involved in the Protocol Development team for the Cross Border Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine Centre (REMEDIC, http://www.remedicproject.eu/), co-funded by the European Union “Greece – the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia IPA Cross-Border Programme 2007-2013.” In this role, he co-developed and implemented protocols for the isolation, characterization, and differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells under GMP conditions. He possesses extensive knowledge of laboratory techniques such as DNA/Protein isolation, SDS-PAGE, Transfection, Western Blotting, PCR, Real-Time PCR, mammalian cell culture under GMP conditions, flow cytometry, as well as fluorescent and confocal microscopy.

Since 2013, Dr. Theofanis Vavilis has been teaching a wide variety of subjects at both the graduate and postgraduate levels, including human physiology, human anatomy, biology, human genetics, advanced molecular techniques, flow cytometry, and microscopy to doctors, biologists, and other healthcare professionals in Greek and foreign universities.

Scientific Output

Dr. Theofanis Vavilis has an h-index of 6 and is the author of 23 publications, which have received 452 citations according to Google Scholar.
